Three-in-One Membership
When you join BIA|Bay Area, you also become a member of the California Building Industry Association (CBIA) as one of its 6,000 members along with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), a national organization with more than 220,000 businesses in the home building industry. These associations work year-round to achieve the goal of providing sufficient affordable housing and to make the American dream of homeownership a reality for the people of the Bay Area, California and the nation.

Advocacy
BIA|Bay Area governmental affairs staff covers the local and regional government, regulatory and legal issues that impact home building in the Bay Area and Northern California. As an association member, you will not only benefit from the advocacy efforts of the BIA advocates locally and regionally, you will also benefit from the state and national support of expert CBIA and NAHB staff and lobbyists.
Networking Opportunities
BIA|Bay Area facilitates networking among its 400+ members through events, education and publications. The association encourages its builders and associates to share products, services and ideas, and to build relationships with fellow members and industry professionals. Annual events include the installation of officers in January; three Purchasing Agents, Subcontractors and Suppliers (P.A.S.S.) luncheons a year, the Sales & Marketing Council’s MAME Awards; the annual BIA Golf Tournament, Spring Builder Panel Breakfast and the December John Burns Economic Forecast.
BIA|Bay Area’s councils and committees hold several events throughout the year and the South Bay and East Bay Regional Policy Committees have regular meetings and get-togethers for regional networking opportunities. Check the Committee/Council tab on the website for more information.).
BIA|Bay Area also partners with other organizations for programs and workshops that provide expanded value to members. Its partners include the California Homebuilding Foundation (CHF), Urban Land Institute of San Francisco (ULI), Build it Green, West Coast Green, HomeAid Northern California and other regional BIA/HBA Regional Associations.
BIA Bay Area Publications and Communications
BIA|Bay Area keeps its members up-to-date on the news and issues that affect the building industry. The Weekly Report is a must-read that provides updates on upcoming events plus critical advocacy, legal, legislative and home building news from throughout the Bay Area. Other Benefits Members may request a digital version of our database with contact information on all our members twice a year.
Voluntary Affirmative Marketing Agreement (VAMA)
BIA|Bay Area is a signatory on a Voluntary Affirmative Marketing Agreement (VAMA) with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The agreement was established to advance fair housing through affirmative marketing, outreach and education in order to provide equal housing opportunity to all home seekers regardless of their race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin.
As a benefit to its members, BIA|Bay Area’s participation in VAMA allows builders to satisfy HUD’s fair housing requirements to provide an Affirmative Fair Housing Marketing Plan if they apply for participation in any HUD/FHA-assisted or insurance program. Members need only sign the agreement to participate and BIA|Bay Area will take care of the rest. Click here for more details.

CBIA Member Rebate Program
BIA|Bay Area is proud to introduce the CBIA Member Rebate Program, a new member benefit of the California Building Industry Association available to all active builder and associate members..
This program awards builders and remodelers cash rebates for using specific manufacturers’ products in the building and remodeling of homes. Currently, 51 manufacturers covering more than 35 different product categories are participating. Associate members may promote their businesses as a materials supplier or installer from the participating manufacturers. This program is free to BIA|Bay Area members. Click here to learn more.
Educational Programs
BIA|Bay Area offers educational seminars, classes, programs and training with nationally recognized certification. These include the Institute of Residential Marketing (IRM, CMP and MIRM), Certified New Home Sales Professional courses (CSP), Residential Construction Superintendent (RCS), Construction Safety Committee training programs and Sales and Marketing Council (SMC) workshops
Community Service
HomeAid Northern California is the charitable arm of the building industry with a mission to rebuild the lives of the Bay Area’s homeless through housing and community outreach. HomeAid mobilizes members of the building industry to donate labor, materials and expertise, allowing the service provider to concentrate on funds for operating the shelter. HomeAid’s work is made possible through the generosity of BIA|Bay Area’s homebuilders and their trade partners.
